As a professional moving company, we understand that moving across the country can be quite a challenge. For the best success during your move, we have created a list for you to use. These tips are here to make sure that your long-distance move is less hectic for you.
Create a Moving Plan
When you are making a move, especially a long-distance move, it is crucially important that you make a detailed plan. You can start by making a list of all of the tasks that you need to accomplish that are related to your move. From here, organize them in order of what is most important. This plan will help you manage your time and make sure that everything that needs to be done before the move is done.
Lighten Your Load
Long-distance moves will be more expensive than a local one. This is because your move is usually based on the weight of the items that you need to have transported. The more items you have, the more you will have to pay. This is why it is good to go through all your items and decide what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of.
Try setting aside things that you want to donate, sell, or throw away. This way, you will be able to not only save time on packing but save money on the move itself.
Make Sure Your Mover is Properly Licensed & Insured
It is very unfortunate that the number of movers without a license or insurance is increasing. In order to avoid falling for one of these scams, make sure that you check with your professional mover that they are licensed. You can also look them up using the FMCSA’s database using their U.S. DOT number in order to make sure they are legit.
Update any Important Documents
Make sure to update all of your information. This may seem like a give-in, but making sure that your new address is updated on everything is important. Especially for documents such as your vehicle registration and driver’s license.
Packing
Packing is a time-consuming job, especially when it comes to a long-distance move. This challenging task requires you to properly plan, takes a lot of time, and will require some help from friends and family. If this is not done correctly, this can end up making the entire move a disaster.
The solution to making sure that this stage of the process goes off without a hitch is to hire a professional moving company. Call our team at Gerold Moving & Warehousing today, and our team of experts will ensure that your move, no matter how far, goes off without any incidents.
