Moving is usually a long and time-consuming process and can be chaotic and complicated. However, there are several things that you can do in order to make your move a smooth transition. The most important thing to do is to hire a professional moving company to assist you in the move. But beyond doing that, we have come up with 5 tips to help your moving day make everything a little bit less stressful for you.

  1. Make Sure that You or Someone that You Trust is Present
    • This may seem like something that is obvious, however, you would be surprised as to how many moving companies have to deal with absent clients on moving day. Even if there is an emergency and you cannot be there, make sure that there is a responsible adult present for the entire day. This is because someone will need to be there to answer the mover’s questions, sign any paperwork, and direct them with the packing and loading process as needed.
  2. Ensure that there is a Clear Path from the Truck to Your House
    • For your safety, as well as the safety of the movers, making sure that there is a clear path from the truck into your house is a must. This is because it will allow for safe passage for all of your household furniture as well as any boxes that are inside.  Also, make sure to remove all possible tripping hazards inside and outside of your home. This includes clothing, bags of trash, tools, and even toys.
  3. Do an Initial and Final Walkthrough of Your Home with Your Movers
    • At the beginning of your day, you will want to go through your house with the movers. During this process make sure to point out any special items of importance, fragile items, and items that will not be loaded onto the moving company’s truck. Make sure that your movers not only understand your specific instructions but also remember them.
At the end of the day, it is a good idea to do a final walkthrough of your home. This way you can make sure that all of your possessions have been loaded onto the truck or into your vehicle. Make sure to check any and all drawers, closets, and cabinets to make sure that no item has been left behind.
  4. Keep Pets or Kids Occupied
    • We all love our pets and children; we, however, often realize that they slow things down when work needs to be done. This is not to mention that they may become accidental tripping hazards for yourself and for the moving professionals. We suggest keeping your children occupied with activities in a separate room, or if possible, getting a relative or friend to watch them for the day.  The same thing goes for pets. We suggest that you either leave them with a friend or maybe put them in a kennel during the packing and loading process.
  5. Make Sure that You and the Driver are on the Same Page
    • Once your items are all packed and loaded on the moving truck, you will want to make sure they get to your brand-new home in one piece and on time. Keeping this in mind, it is a great idea to exchange your contact information with your moving company’s driver. Ensure that you and the driver are on the exact same page when it comes to your delivery schedule.
